XpanD DLP®-Link 3D Glasses FAQ

Do I need an IR emitter for XpanD DLP Link Glasses?

No. XpanD DLP Link glasses syncronize directly with 3D DLP product and DO NOT require an IR emitter. There is a common misconception and even if you hear from DLP TV manufacturers that you need an emitter for DLP Link glasses, please ignore it. Please note that DLP Link Glasses work only with DLP 3D Ready TVs, or Projectors.

For the current LCD, LED and Plasma 3D TVs please look for XpanD Universal 3D TV Glasses that will be available at the end of August.

Can I play console games in 3D with XpanD DLP Link Glasses?

You can play any native 3D console game with your DLP 3D TV. Currently there are only two games available – Avatar, and Invincible Tiger. Several major titles will be release in September of 2010. In addition Mitsubishi 3D DLP TV owners who also bought 3DA-1 Adapter Kit, can enjoy new 3D game titles (such as PAIN, MotorStorm Pacific Rift, Super Stardust HD and WipEout HD) from Sony.

You cannot yet play console games with 3D DLP projectors.

Will my DLP TV work with DirecTV new 3D channels? What additional equipment do I need to have?

Mitsubishi 3D DLP TVs will work with upcoming DirectTV 3D channels. However they require a special adaptor. You will need to buy a Mitsubishi 3DA-1 Adapter Kit with MSRP $99. Samsung DLP TV models will NOT be supported by 3DA-1 Adapter Kit.

Will my 3D BluRay player work with XpanD DLP Link glasses and my 3D DLP Product?

If you buy a 3D BluRay player make sure that it has a 3D output format that is compatible with your 3D DLP product. Almost all 3D DLP HDTVs require a "checkerboard" 3D Format. Almost all 3D DLP Projectors require a 120 Hz pageflipping format.

For now, only Panasonic Blu Ray 3D Players support “checkerboard” format. If you have any other model of Blu Ray 3D Player, and Mitsubishi 3D DLP TV, you will need to buy a Mitsubishi 3DA-1 Adapter Kit with MSRP $99.

None of Blu Ray 3D players support pageflipping yet, so you can only play 3D Blu Ray disks with 3D Ready projectors via PC using Cyberlink PowerDVD software (beta version with pageflipping support).

Can I play PC Games in 3D with XpanD DLP Link Glasses?

Yes, you can play 500+ PC video games in 3D, all games starting from DirectX 8 were designed in 3D. You will need a DLP Link based 3D TV or a 3D Projector and a gaming 3D Ready PC. To upgrade your PC to 3D Ready, you need to have a piece of software called middleware from iz3d (www.iz3d.com) or Tridef from DDD (www.ddd.com). The upgrade can be a little tricky, so if you don’t want to do it yourself, we encourage you to visit a 3rd party – Aspen Media (www.aspenmedia.com) or Tru3D (www.tru3d.com).
