XpanD 3D Education Pack
XpanD 3D Educational Kit is everything you need for a 3D classroom. There are four key elements comprising this package:
1. XpanD 3D Glasses in a Case
XpanD took what was best in the cinema and made it available for the classroom utilizing DLP® Link 3D communication for 3D ready projectors. The X102 DLP® Link active shutter glasses for education have the following features: No installation required; “touch to turn on“ activation to experience 3D instantly; replaceable 120 hour battery; and a waterproof design that allows them to be cleaned in the dishwasher.
2. DLP Projector
The Sharp PG-D2510X offers exceptionally high performance at a very affordable price. Designed for school and business use, the PG-D2510X utilizes the latest BrilliantColor DLP technology with DLP Link™ (for high quality 3D projection from a single projector). Additional key features include 2500 ANSI Lumens brightness, 7 Watt audio system, 2nd D-sub in/out (switchable) and Audio Out, built-in closed caption decoder and sealed DLP chip with filter-free design. With under 1 watt of standby power consumption and estimated lamp life of up to 4,000 hours (in eco mode), this slim and lightweight projector is exceptionally environmentally friendly.
3. Educational Content
Included in this bundle are ten interactive, 3D simulations created by JTM Concepts, Inc: Flower Anatomy, Composite Solids – Volume, Making Cubes, Solar System, Fall Leaves, Shape Measurement, Euglena, Crystal Systems, Atomic Structure and Photosynthesis.
These simulations are from a larger library of 3D simulations called Classroom3®. Using these 3D simulations will enhance the learning experience by providing the students with a clear and complete visualization of difficult concepts. The instructors will benefit by having access to a technologically advanced, fully interactive teaching tool, which will grab and retain the students’ attention creating a more conducive learning environment for ALL students.
4. Computer Server
Aspen's 3D Education Player is designed specifically for the needs of today's teaching environment, combining high-performance 3D and 2D hi-definition streaming video, Blu-ray player that is software upgradable to 3D when available, digital dolby sound, simple setup, and ease-of-use.

Frequently Asked Questions
General Statement:
This FAQ is intended to supply information pertaining to utilizing 3D in the classroom. XpanD and the companies involved in this EDU bundle accept no responsibility for the accuracy of the information contained within. Please check with your authorized dealer for additional information and/or if there are any questions.
General
Do I need to purchase everything shown in the EDU 3D bundle?
No, each item can be purchased individually. However, to run 3D content in stereo, all of the components are necessary.
Can any of the items shown on the EDU 3D bundle be used for my everyday classroom use, not just for 3D?
The projector, content and computer can all be used for everyday teaching. All of these items can be used to teach in 2D or 3D.
What is DLP-Link™?
DLP (Digital Light Processing) Link is a communication protocol that uses the DLP® chip inside DLP TVs and projectors. The DLP chip sends an embedded light signal to the 3D glasses between each video frame that synchronizes the 3D image with the glasses. These glasses do not require an emitter.
Computer
Do I need an NVIDIA® Quadro FX video card to view content in 3D?
Yes, for viewing interactive, educational, stereoscopic, content, the NVIDIA Quadro FX card is needed. Other cards will also work like an ATI FireGL card, however the graphics card must be Quad Buffer compatible. A standard graphics card can be used to playback your typical 2D content.
Will my existing teachers’ work station display in 3D?
At a minimum, your teachers work station needs a graphics card that can display 3D (see question above), Intel Core 2 Duo processor or better, 1 GB SDRAM, and 80 GB Hard Drive.
Projector
Will my existing projector display in 3D? Do I need to purchase a new projector?
If the projector has the “DLP 3D ready” logo, the projector can playback 3D. If this logo is not displayed on the projector, please check with your dealer to determine if the projector is 3D ready.
Is the projector depicted on the front of the EDU marketing sheet the only projector that is 3D ready?
No, there are many projectors available that are 3D ready. Please visit the following website more information and a list of featured 3D ready projectors: http://www.dlp.com/projector/dlp-innovations/3d-ready.aspx
When I am ready to display 3D, do I need to adjust any settings on my DLP 3D Ready projector?
Typically, the DLP 3D Ready projector will have a setting in the on-screen menu or remote that allows you to turn the 3D DLP Link mode on. Check your projector manual for more details.
How does a 3D projector work?
The DLP® technology inside the projector is so fast, it can actually produce two images on the screen at the same time: One for the left eye and one for the right eye. Then the 3D glasses combine the two images to create an immersive 3D effect.
3D Glasses
Can the 3D active shutter glasses be cleaned and sanitized?
Yes, the XpanD active 3D shutter glasses are water proof and can be cleaned in the dishwasher or sink. A UV wand or other non toxic disinfectant can be used to sanitize the glasses.
What is the maximum distance from the screen before communication between the glasses and the projector is lost?
The XpanD X102 educational glasses are designed to get 2 feet for every 100 ANSI lumen (brightness). For example, if a projector is 2500 ANSI lumen, you should achieve a distance of 40-50 feet from the screen before the glasses will loose communication from the projector.
What does Active Shutter mean?
Active Shutter technology are 3D glasses that electronically open and close liquid crystal lenses over each eye, synchronized with a 3D video display. When this display presents a left eye image, the glasses cover the right eye so only the left eye sees the display, and vice versa for the other eye. This process is repeated more than a hundred times per second and is virtually undetectable to the user.
What is the battery life of the X102 XpanD DLP-Link Active shutter glasses?
Under normal use, there is 120 hours of battery life.
Content
Is the content included with the educational bundle the only stereoscopic educational content available?
No, currently there are over 600+ content pieces available in various subjects from different providers. We are expecting over 3000 content pieces to be available by the summer of 2010.
Do I have to take the subjects that are included with the bundle or can I choose the grade level and subjects I want?
Ten interactive simulations come with the bundle. The simulations range in subject and grade level. If others are desired, please contact the other content providers.
Will the content included with the bundle work in 2D (without glasses) or does it only work in 3D?
The content included works in either 2D or 3D.
